What a fabulous, moving, uplifting show this is. I saw it down in the West End back in 2018 and I do believe that this touring version is a match for, if not better than, that original production ... and that is saying something.
Ivano Turco as Jamie is a real powerhouse of a performer with a beautiful voice. In fact the singing throughout is wonderful, especially his mother (Rebecca McKinnis) and Miss Hedge (Sam Bailey). On the night we saw it, Pritti was played by Rhiannon Bacchus who was spot on. The songs are wonderful, though not in general ones you will find yourself singing days later they all serve the plot beautifully and each has a truthful and real feel.
A versatile set, enhanced by subtle but effective projections, moves us smoothly between scenes with no loss of pace.
This really is a slick and joyous show and I highly recommend it for all ages, despite a little bad language.
