As usual with the WNO, the performances were excellent, David Stout's Leporello was so well pitched, it must be a dream part to sing and he played it to the hilt. At times, perhaps, the balance with the orchestra volume left you straining for some of the male voices but the overall effect was quite beautiful and James Southall's conducting was about as energetic as it gets!
I came out of this one on a real high, Mozart can do that to you, but with slightly mixed emotions. The music, singing and fabulous WNO orchestra got a 5* but the show was let down a bit by messy staging. It seemed like the props and set were fighting back a bit; from a sword that kept rattling on the stage near the beginning, to wobbling set, late candles, people supposedly working behind scenery but being easily seen, hands coming through doors to close them ....
Still, a brilliant night out - thank you to all ...
