There are so many words! Then there is stunning acrobatics/choreography. This is alot of show to get your head around at 1125 in the morning. They say Definition of Man is a physicalised post-apocalyptic decreation myth. It is an existential exploration of the value of words over action – here the challenge is to try to keep up with thewords while the performers get into unbelievable positions. Such power and controlled movement while philosophising quietly is incredible.
Nikki Muller and Jason Rosario perform with impeccable style whilst considering race, religion, entitlement, gender and love. She is desperate to use language to connect; he doubts the facility of language to express thought and emotion. He claims “there is no perfect white in nature” which made me think of snow and many other natural whitethings. You need to listen carefully; not all they say is truth. “Even your own language becomes a foreign language when you speak of yourself” - there are many though provoking ideas here. They reach a compromise towards the end when they stop talking, whichis expressive in itself. If you can wake up to it so early, this is something quite beautiful and strange.
