What a glorious evening of dance. A richly detailed set and the wonderful sounds of a full live orchestra underpin a beautifully crafted and performed ballet that entertains and amuses in equal part. This is a great ballet for both those who are new to the form and those who glory in it. There aren't many ballets that have the audience laughing out loud but this is certainly one - some scenes are almost panto and are played for the comedy whilst maintaining the traditional mime/ballet story telling.
The corps do an excellent job but the evening really goes to Swanilda (Celine Gittens) and Franz (Tyrone Singleton) - Tyrone's leaps being particularly impressive - such height and grace.
Great music, superb dancing, an easy to follow story, what's not to love!
