Cardboard Citizen have built a show out of verbatim, almost verbatim, derived and invented conversations in six real stories of homelss people - some of whom ended up amongst the hundreds who die each year. Moving swiftly and effortlessly between characters we are taken through some stories we know, some we half remember and some unknown - all of which are given life and humanity. The play is clever, in a good way, with plenty of humour but an awful lot of gut wrenching incidents - we, the audience were not involved in any of these events (I assume) so why did it make us all so guilty? Powerful stuff.
The production ends with an on-scren call to action, a programme with additional information on how to provide support and a card and badge to take away - as supporters of The SIT-UP Awards, we greatly applaud the care for the audience and the subject shown - helping us to help after the show is over.
