That's not to say that the show is bad. There are some fine comic performances, particularly from John Hopkins as Penitent Brothel, the conflicted, guilt ridden, would be lover whose imagined descent into hell with his married lover was a highlight of the evening. In fact the whole company is strong, Philip Goulding is an amazingly energetic Dick Follywit and Sarah Ridgeway eases her way through several accents and a variety of guises as Truly Kidman. The action was interspersed with songs, the company being supported by a terrific band led by singer Linda John Pierre - fabulous voice and a joy to listen to.
I am happy to concede that I am in a minority by not loving this show and judging by the audience reaction this will be a popular ticket, and indeed why not. It may not suit me but it absolutely suited everyone else.
