creatingSPARKS - Scientists in the Movies archiveThe creatingSPARKS festival celebrates creativity at the frontiers of the sciences and the arts. creatingSparks is brought to you by the British Association, Imperial College, The Natural History Museum, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal College of Art, the Royal College of Music, the Royal Geographical Society, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Ever since movies began, the scientist - as saint and sinner - has been centre stage. Usually as sinner, Drs Jekyll, Rottwang, Frankenstein and Strangelove - come to mind. Conversely, real-life scientists have been presented as impossibly virtuous saints. Professor Christopher Frayling, Rector of the Royal College of Art, looks at a selection of movie scientists and reflects on the impact of these images.
