Details

This wide ranging programme of staged songs sung in English encompasses heartfelt narrative, ingenious staging and high comedy. Benjamin Britten's Canticle II, the story of Abraham and Isaac, has been transposed to the Western Front of the First World War. A fusion of two works by contemporary British composer Jonathan Dove has been re-imagined into an ingenious film noir murder mystery with shadow puppetry intensifying the live action. Framing them both is an enchanting and delightful puppet romance involving a gryffin and a unicorn set to songs by Purcell, Dowland, Morley and other pre 18th Century composers.
