Why Does the Queen Die? archiveThe play, set in Austria towards the end of Schubert's young life (he died at 31), is a celebration of his achievements and friendships. Using contemporary language and allusions, Burnside presents a compelling and often funny snapshot of Schubert, his friendships, intrigues, gossip, drinking, hangovers, dancing and sausage parties, woven seamlessly with Schubert's unforgettable songs, performed live on stage throughout the play.
