Lucy has lost something very important. He was there one moment, then gone the next, leaving her with a pile of half-cooked food and a collection of invited (and uninvited) guests. As Lucy acclimatises to her new situation, the audience is absorbed, along with her and her visitors, into an intimate and sensory experience.
