Twelfth Night archiveOr What You Will. Shakespeare comedy of mistaken identity, practical jokes and unrequited love. Rescued from a shipwreck the twins Viola and Sebastian arrive independently in Illyria, both thinking the other is drowned. Viola disguises herself as a boy and finds employment with the Duke who is in love with Olivia. Malvolio is the subject of a cruel joke played on him by Sir Toby Belch (yellow stockings cross-gartered) leading him to believe that Olivia loves him. But Olivia has fallen in love with the disguised Viola, while she is in love with the Duke (following it so far?!).

Shakespeare as it Should be performed! Why bother to go to large-scale productions when such superbly intimate versions are available. All the performers in this production work together perfectly. emphasising all the varied aspects of the play: humour, tragedy, absurdity. I've never seen a better performance of Malvolio - just the right side of ridiculous without ever falling into a parody of what Shakespeare intended. The production's simple sets, excellent costumes and original music all greatly complement the play - full marks to the director for putting the entire production together in such an excellent fashion.
