Travels With My Aunt archiveA retired bank manager's life takes a new turn with exciting consequences. Henry Pulling lives in an ordinary London suburb and leads a rather dull life. At this mother's funeral he meets the redoubtable Aunt Auusta and his life takes an unexpected turn. Taken under her wing, Henry is propelled into a madcap dash around the world - Paris, Istanbul, even Paraquay. It's a long way from Southwood.

Absolute rubbish. I walked out after 20 minutes. Well done to the previous reviewers for lasting until the intervial. It was awful listening to 4 people screeching and shouting their lines. Whoever thought this was a good idea, needs to rethink their career. I would have put zero stars, but one is the least. Money wasted, an afternoon wasted. Very disappointed!

Attended the first night of this production at the Malvern Theatre last night and was extremely disappointed with this travesty of Graham Greenes wonderful novel. The actors in turn screech out their lines - as each has a bash at the characters - in the belief that the louder and progressively more camp the portrayal of Aunt Augusta the funnier it will be; wrong. The clue you are given as to whose turn it is to be playing the Aunt is the possession of pink cats eye spectacles which are held rather than worn. Henry is a character you should be able to warm to but as this is played by all the actors individually and sometimes at the same time it is difficult to form any bond with, as is so with all the characters the team attempt. The set, a bar, serves to portray everything from a train to cab to an apartment; you will need some imagination. The jokes were lame and badly delivered, the polite if not forced laughter from the audience was an acknowledgement of the attempt not the accomplishment. We lasted to the interval and surrendered all hope of improvement, preferring a stiffener at the bar to the tragedy that was occurring on stage. Cant put a minus star rating in so will have to put in one, although it doesn't deserve it.
