Details
This is the first great play by Schiller, regarded as Germany's Shakespeare. It tells the story of two brothers, a favoured and handsome son, and his ugly brother. The favoured son goes away to study, leaving the ugly son at home where he feeds his father lies about his brother, which in turn leads to the father disinheriting his favoured son. In the face of disinheritance, he sets up and leads a gang of robbers to improve the world around them, but their criminality escalates, turning them into terrorists, happy to kill women and children - as part of their purported mission to make the world a better place.
