Inspired by Ilya Repin s painting ?They did not expect him , in which a man returns home from a concentration camp and almost no-one welcomes him, Ioli Andreadi and the cast devised The Return of the Exile. With the help of a soundscape and live drawing on stage by the set designer, the actors describe the absence of a contemporary exile and his difficult, dangerous and problematic return. Previously performed at the Lincoln Center Theater Director s Lab in New York in 2009, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Cultural Multi-Space Athinais in Athens, these are the first UK performances of The Return of the Exile. Running time: approx. 60mins
