The Mysteries - 2006 archiveThis contemporary adaptation of iconic bible stories by acclaimed playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Ron Hutchinson, is a new revival of Coventry’s Mystery Plays, which date back to mediaeval times. With professional actors leading a cast of over 100 local people, a spectacular set, and dramatic lighting and projection work, The Mysteries 2006 promises to be an experience that is in turn humorous, thrilling and inspiring. The famous stories of the Bible and of Jesus are familiar to many but this production asks - what if it happened now? Right here? The Mysteries 2006 offers a new perspective on this magical chronicle that will touch the heart of everyone. Coventry has been retelling the drama of the old testament and the life and death of Christ for hundreds of years, when productions of the Mystery Plays would parade through its streets, drawing crowds from far and wide - often with the Kings and Queens of England in attendance! In 2000 the Belgrade Theatre’s Millennium Mysteries revived the tradition to great acclaim and since then the theatre has created a brand new version once every three years.
