Details
This powerful play by the Russian playwright Alexander Gelman combines the satirical humour of Alan Ayckbourn with the darkness of Arthur Miller. In this blistering expose of the conflict between the pressures of work and domestic life in Soviet Russia, Gelman focuses on the relationship between Andrei an industrial manager and his wife Natasha. A tragic accident involving their son brings to a head a relationship already in crisis. Who is really to blame? although Gelman's ultimate target is the mechanism of the Soviet economy, it is the people in whom he is interested, and as recriminations fly between husband and wife, a powerful yet bitterly humorous portrait emerges of both a marriage and a society straining after questionable values.
