The Madame Macadam Travelling Theatre archiveSet in Donegal in 1943, this comic melodrama explores what happens when a travelling group of English actors run out of petrol in an Irish town. The troupe are stranded unless they can get hold of some black market petrol; in their search we encounter a power-crazed Army Reserve Sergeant, love-struck teenagers, a doctored greyhound and a dodgy member of the Garda. First performed in 1991 by Ireland's Field Day Company (founded by Brian Friel and Stephen Rea) this funny and touching play is the first production of a Thomas Kilroy play at Bristol Old Vic Studio.
