The Killing of Sister George archiveRadio actress June Buckridge plays Sister George, a much-loved character in the popular radio soap opera "Applehurst" but discovers that, to boost audience ratings, the character is to be killed off. June’s behaviour becomes increasingly paranoid to the consternation of her live-in companion, Childie, who is the butt of her bullying and bad temper but who finds a friend in Mrs Croft, June's boss at the BBC who whom she eventually leaves. A comedy of adult themes depicting, as it did, lesbian relationships and domestic bullying. First seen in London’s West End in 1965 and later filmed under the same title.
