The Kaiser and I archiveGerhard learnt to dance as a young man, but many years have passed and he now needs a few lessons if he is to be good enough for the Kaiser's Ball. His instructor is Bella, who left her life in England to move to Berlin and teach dancing to German officers. Bella soon discovers that it's hard to teach a man of method and discipline that you don't dance with the feet but the heart. They could be about to become perfect partners on the dance floor, but it's 1914 and the stormclouds of war are gathering over the city.
