Monsieur Argan is a very ill man - or so he would like to think. Living on a diet of injections, mixtures and enemas, prescribed by his quack physician Dr Purgon, Argan lives in perpetual fear of dying - or at least being found out as a perfectly well man. In order to ensure he has ready access to his 'remedies' he arranges to marry his daughter, Angelique, to a doctor. But Angelique has other plans... Scheming wives, quack doctors, irascible servants and outrageous fops meet head on to create one of the funniest plays in the classic canon.
