After his spiritual journey of seeking the truth, and the most heart-breaking separation with his third wife, Strindberg expressed his mental struggles and miserable experience of human relationships through this powerful absurd play: An encounter between a poor student and a mysterious Old Man on the Sunday morning changed the fate of both forever. Encouraged by his adventurous nature, the young man decided to make his fortune by accepting the Old Man's bargain, and got himself invited into the admiring House of Colonel. It wasn't until he fell deeply in love with the Colonel's daughter that he realised he had stepped into the House of Dead...
