The Fall of the House of Usher archiveThe storytelling of Poe produces not a dream but a nightmare in slow motion. Berkoff's adaptation of Poe's short story extracts the menace of the gothic tradition with a series of abstract images, translated into movement, sound and mime. A blending of the natural with the disturbingly unnatural conjures for the audience a labyrinth of dark passages and even darker relationships.
