The Fair Maid of the West or A Girl Worth Gold archiveBess Bridges, a serving girl in a Plymouth tavern is in love with Captain Spencer who is about to embark on an expedition to the Azores. He is reported dead so the grief-stricken Bess decides to go and bring his body home. Disguised as a man she buys a ship, hires a crew and sets sail. Of course nothing goes right and she has to face storms, mutiny, sea bandits and even a Moroccan king. A superb romp.
