The Empire Changes Hands follows the fortunes of a host of fascinating characters who frequent the local dance hall called The Empire. In February 1952 the sudden death of George King, the owner of the dance hall, precipitates a crisis. Who will take over? Will it be his elder daughter, Betty, with two young children and a husband at sea, or the long-serving manager, Wynn? With songs like
