Before the arrival of Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926, Milne was a very well-established author of 18 plays.
The Dover Road was first performed in 1921 in New York, then opening at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, in London the following year. Later, in the 1930s the play became a major film under the title
Where Sinners Meet, starring Diana Wynyard and Clive Brook. It's a light-hearted comedy set in a mysterious house just off the Dover Road, inhabited by the enigmatic Mr Latimer. Two runaway couples find themselves enjoying the hospitality of a complete stranger, who seems to have an underlying purpose of his own...
