Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin is struggling. His job is going nowhere, he can barely interact with other people and his life has become devoid of meaning. So when a man enters his life who looks exactly like him, only infinitely more intelligent and charming, he begins to lose hold of not only his identity but also his sanity.
