A dramatisation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's
Sunset Song. Set in the farming country of Angus the production tells the story of Chris Guthrie, a young woman torn between her desire to escape the narrow horizons of her farming community, and her affinity for the land and its traditions. It is also an account of the First World War's destruction of that community and of a way of life as seen through her unsentimental eyes. Lewis Grassic Gibbon's view of history, politics and national identity has a direct and powerful resonance to modern Scotland as she enters the new Century and approaches a New Millennium.
