Details
States of Shock is an anti-war play written as a bitter outcry against America's involvement in the Gulf. If condemns both the American government's military invasion of Iraq and, more notably, the compliant reaction of the American public to that invasion and to the manner in which it was mass-marketed by our leaders. Originally premiered in 1991 off-Broadway (starring John Malkovich) as a response to the first Gulf War, Sam Shepard was one of the few members of the American theatre community to take a stance on the Gulf War.
