Clifton, 1995 - and Alice celebrates her 85th birthday in the bosom of her loving family. But as she sips her Bristol Cream and real agenda is revealed. Alice is becoming increasingly frail and her children use the occasion to attempt to persuade her to move into a home. Alice, however, has other plans...As the battle rage overhead Alice's consciousness drifts, time shifts - and past and present merge. The result is a wonderfully skilful distillation of a family, So Long Life casts a flickering glance back across the 20th century through the lives of six wayward individuals.
