Romeo and Juliet archiveThe story of frustrated young (illegally young in modern terms) love and death and the vendetta between two families in a tight-knit Italian community. One of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring dramas it has also been re-done as film, ballet, musical (most notably "West Side Story") and ice spectacular! In 1938, Mussolini passed the Race Laws forbidding Italians to marry Jews... The young Romeo lives in fear under the impending shadow of Italy’ Fascist rule. Count Capulet, militant member of Mussolini’s secret police - the 'Blackshirts' finds his world under threat when his daughter, Juliet, is determined to defy the Race Laws. Ruby In The Dust add a new twist to the classic tale of the 'star-cross’d' lovers. Dangerous yet atmospheric, provocative and sexy, it is stripped down to the real essence of the tragic tale.
