'The sea is full of mystery and power, the giver and taker of life, the enemy and challenger of the young, it is evil and good' TR Henn Maurya's husband and sons have all been lost to the sea. She begs her last son not to set sail on the ocean, but their living depends on it. When she refuses to bless his journey her daughters believe it's the end for all of them, and her momentary lapse of tradition seems to conjure up the evil spirits who, she believes, bring about the haunting tragic end.
The Shadow of the Glen - on a remote hillside in a cottage a young wife dreams of escape.
The Tinker's Wedding - on a roadside in the wilderness a young woman vagrant hopes to be married. Presented together for the first time in a haunting triptych, JM Synge's three short plays explore the undercurrent of buried hopes, dreams and fears ever present in all of our lives.
