An evening which pairs two great masters of comedy, both satirising the double standards of petty bourgeois respectability and its underlying need for conformity. Bedtime Stories relates the outcome of John Joe Mulligan's encounter with a lively young lassie, an encounter which he soon regrets as his landlady and a neighbour become involved and his embarrassment mounts. Previous Relations introduces us to a nouveau riche couple whose new handyman and cook turn out to know much too much about each other and the past exploits of their new employers. Both Irish and Austrian playwrights question the shiftiness of the 'respectable' class, where lies and deceit prevail over all other values.
