Othello archiveOthello, a Moor, falls in love with Desdemona but is broken by jealousy falsely encouraged. Shakespeare's most human play sets delicacy and power, trust and jealousy, love and hate, good and evil in stark and tragic opposition. Powerless in the face of their own self destructive instincts, the characters are caught on a downward spiral towards inevitable tragedy. Shakespeare's character, Othello the Moor, is a renowned mercenary soldier. This updated production sets the play within the booming yet mysterious world of western military security companies, the private armies of today. Against the backdrop of the cut-throat competition for military contracts, this production explores the more localized battle of Othello against his own demons as Iago, desperate for revenge, tragically destroys Othello's relationship with his precious Desdemona. Running time: 2hrs 30mins (approx. including interval)
