One Last Card Trick archiveIn the basement of a poorly attended West End synagogue three elderly Jewish women frequent the Friendship Club. Tuesday is Kaluki day and has been for the past forty years. Regular as clockwork Hetty, Sophie and Magda spend the afternoon playing the card game Kaluki, telling stories about the good old days and reminiscing about absent friends. But all that is about to change, rumours are brewing and there are whispers the synagogue is going to be sold to a local businessman. But not just any businessman, a strip club owner! Fearing the worst, and wanting to protect their club and memories from the hands of commercialism they decide to take direct action and barricade themselves in the fated synagogue. Not the most likely protesters, they have memory loss, failing eyesight and the ability to rub each other up the wrong way! Armed with barbiturates for the guard dogs and a plentiful supply of picnic food, can they succeed and save their meeting place or will their constant bickering put pay to their plan?
