Britain is at war and oil is the lifeblood. Our supplies were being sunk in the Atlantic. Nottinghamshire has millions of barrels - in the UK's first oil field. 43 American 'Roughnecks' come with their rings to help. "To make a movie" was their story - well at least to the local factory girls. The oil was produced at a price. A true story not yet told of excitement, romance, drama, humour and sacrifice. The lives of those involved would never be quite the same again. The play explores the relationship between the Americans and the local people of Newark and in particular the factory girls. We learn how the Americans cope with Britain at war and the adjustment to food rationing!
