Details
Nayra explores the landscape of memory, myth, dreams and pain of Colombia's past and present, where cruelty, dispossession and disappearance drill into the consciousness.
Nayra is full of extraordinary images, played out through ritual, impressionistic tableaux and a clever use of kitsch props and religious iconography. With an Indian Shaman, saints, Mary in a red dress and shattered objects as stand-ins for lives lost, the feeling is one of an ancient or timeless world. Flashes of contemporary life act as a counterpoint and a harsh reminder that we too are implicit in the action and have a part to play in this history. Performed in Spanish with English synopsis provided.
