A family find themselves in a time where old ways of life are coming to an end and the world is full of possibilities. It's the early 60's and the very last days of the working canals. An old lady of the narrow boats is making her final trip up the waterways, taken by her daughter and grandson, Mum and Ted. Mum plucked from the working boats in her young teens, gets her hand on the tiller and knows that she has to come back to the boat. Ted, who's brought his guitar with him, hates the countryside and longs to get back to the big city, to reams o Fireball XL5, Yuri Gagarin, Elvis Presley and the USA. However, it's not long nor far up the canal before the family meet a mysterious person from their dreams, with startling consequences..
