Murder in Bridgport archiveAn Irish ghetto, Southside Chicago, 1920, this play tells the story of an immigrant Irish family comprehending life as it is and the need for change within. As Grandpa Jimmy (a meatpacker) reminisces about 'poor old Ireland' and the prejudice suffered on their arrival, Michael Kelly (a builder) and wife Ellen (an active suffragette) aspire that their only son, Joe works hard in order that 'one day he'll be Mayor of Chicago'. Father O'Brien encourages them all to maintain the Christian ethic despite all the rebellion. When Joe's passion for Jazz and loose women leads to a killing, the committee of the local boys sporting club have a procedure that can right any wrongs and beliefs.
