In 1785, store keeper of a Cornish tin mine, Rudolph Erich Raspe wrote 'The Travels of Baron Munchausen'. Tales of giant eagles, feats of prodigious strength, journeys through the centre of the Earth, discoveries of fabulous new lands and meetings with the men in the moon. Such were the stuff dreams were made of that was the life of Baron Munchausen.
