Details
Mary Oliver's show is full of self-effacing humour. Using her versatile vocal range and synchronised video footage, she plays herself, her three sisters and her Scottish mother. As she puts words into her sisters mouths and tries to teach her mother to speak with a proper 'English accent, the effect is both hilarious and full of pathos. Mother Tongue is a simple idea that breaks all theatrical traditions. Run from and controlled by computer, this work is genuinely risky, placing the performer at the mercy of her own visible technology.
