Part of Tom O'Brien's
Waterford Trilogy, a series of contemporary dramas exploring social issues in modern-day Ireland.
Money from America centres around the return of Jack Carey to his home farm in Waterford. Having subsidised his brother Lardy over the years with money from America Jack has returned to stake his rightful claim on the farm as elder brother. However, Lardy having lived an almost hermit-like life is less than willing to give way to change. This enthralling drama addresses the poignancy of emigration-not only separation and displacement it causes, but also the fragility of long-distance ties and the skewed expectation of homecoming.
