Miss Julie archiveWritten in 1888 by August Strindberg, Miss Julie is set on Midsummer's Eve on the estate of a Count in Sweden. Miss Julie finds herself drawn to a named Jean, who is particularly well-travelled, well-mannered and well-read but he is engaged to the cook, Christine. Miss Julie and Jean's relationship escalates rapidly to feelings of love and is subsequently consummated. Over the course of the play Miss Julie and Jean battle until Jean convinces her that the only way to escape her predicament is to commit suicide. The directors of Eyes Blue have translated and adapted the play from the original Swedish script to take on a new relevance and directness to the modern language. Eyes Blue version of the play focuses on the themes of social position and sexual domination, incomprehension and insanity. It examines the fine line between love and hate, entwined passions in this battle of the sexes.
