The List Festival Guide (11Jan01): Multimedia Shakespeare Bringing a whole new meaning to the term 'office politics', Shakespeare's dark comedy is transported to the modern business world in this super slick adaptation. Much more than a simple re-telling of the story, this is a multimedia experience, complete with an ultra-cool contemporary soundtrack, stylish images and video projection. The whole production simple oozes sex and sophistication, and is a highly successful millennium make-over (Kirsty Knaggs)
Three Weeks (11Jan01): What more can you ask from a play? Sex and power are two of the greatest themes and this Shakespeare work has them in abundance. With the setting transferred to the modern business world, the Duke is a Managing Director who leaves his job, only to return later in disguise to observe his minions. Surrounded by the technology that accompanies most of the new millennium's business, the cast is constantly tapping away at laptops, digital diaries and mobile phones. They are a strong team with few weaknesses and the soundtrack is pumping. Grab your briefcase and join in the fun (fc)
British Theatre Guide (11Jan01): This version of Measure for Measure is set in the world of big business and the setting itself is hi-tech. Throughout the play the cast use mobile phones, hand-held and lap-top computers. The designer and lighting designer had made excellent use of the comparatively limited facilities of the Hill St Theatre very effectively to create exactly the right ambience, the right "feel" for a modern office. Generally, the performances were good and if occasionally, the verse was sacrificed for characterisation, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
