Based on the story of the fifth of Henry VIII's marriages. In the King's eyes Katherine is vivacious and fun loving, a distinct contrast to the Queen, Anne of Cleves, whom Henry cannot abide. Fifty years of age, overweight and unwell, his mood alternates between ill-tempter and depression until he marries Katherine when he becomes wildly happy, full of energy and zest for his new young wife. Henry's passionate love of his new wife is driven by his desperate desire to provide a male heir for the throne of England. The author takes this May-to-September romance and fashions it into a thoughtful and intelligent play.
