Icarus in Love + Drifters archiveThe swinging 60s and Reg and Henri are living the dream. Resident musicians in the smoky enclave of a Soho jazz club, they enjoy a glamour and verve that others envy. Life is a party but this party comes at a price... Gay men at a time when homosexuality is a criminal offence; interracial lovers in a racist society; jazz warriors in the time of the flop-haired Beatles: they are existing on the fringes of a society that shouts free love but can't always deliver. As brutality spills into their world and gangsterism seeps into the Club, Reg and Henri's old demons rise up... Icarus in Love will be preceded by Drifters, a short play by Martin Malcolm, and is part of Theatre West's One Day season of plays all kick-started by a single date, 1st October 2013. This is the company's first project since its recent move from the Alma Tavern in Clifton, Bristol. Drifters is suitable for ages 16+
