Mallarme's
Herodiade is the first example of European conceptual drama. It has survived in fragments, and this production is the UK premiere of the play. Using the Biblical story of Herodias and John the Baptist, the Mallarme was able to convey a powerful clash between the sacred and the profane, using lyrical language rarely met before or since. One of the greatest examples of Symbolist drama performed in the spirit of minimalism by an ensemble of young actors.
