Young Andrew's summer project to interview his grandmother about his forebears leads to an intimate revelation of her childhood in a traditional Chinese household. We meet Andrew's great-grandfather, a businessman returning home to China in 1918. He greets his daughter, three wives, and their traditional Confucian home with a new found interest in modern occidental culture. But much to his wives' alarm, he has also invited a Christian missionary into their home...
