Father's Day archiveWritten by Eric Chappell, who also wrote Rising Damp, the play tells the story of Henry, a lonely and embittered divorcee, being visited one night by this wayward son, Matthew and Matthew's strange girlfriend Christine. Matthew is keen for a reconciliation with his father but Henry is quite happy wallowing in his glorious solitude. This is just the beginning, however, because when Henry's ex-wife Sue arrives a strange reconciliation, sometimes stormy, sometimes romantic, starts to take place. Father's Day is the play that inspired the TV sitcom Home to Roos
