Details
This is a rare chance to catch the astonishing Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices. Gardzienice was formed in 1977 by Wlodzimierz Staniewski. His company is situated in the village of Gardzienice in the south east of Poland, near Lublin. For the Barbican, under Staniewski s artistic direction, the company presents an electrifying double-bill: its distinctive interpretations of Metamorphoses, based on the 2nd century story The Golden Ass by Apuleius and Elektra by Euripides. These versions are drawn from the company s extensive training and research into ancient Greek music and iconography. The result is an absorbing and wildly intense evening of chanting, song, dance and gesture, intermingled with fragments of English, Polish and Greek, exploring the extremes of human emotion.
