There's no such thing as the perfect murder. Or is there? Herbert Nirdlinger should be more careful. Working for a petroleum company, visiting refineries, all sorts of accidents could happen. But Herbert should be worrying about things closer to home, like his wife Phyllis. With its brooding shadows, simmering passion and a storyline soaked in suspense, Billy Wilder's 1944 film masterpiece starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray and Edward G Robinson is regarded as the definitive film noir.
